In 1976-1977 Dr. Margaret Hiers served in Trujillo, Peru, as director of a Project HOPE-sponsored Master's level program that trained twenty special education teachers from throughout Peru. These teachers returned to their own towns to train other teachers.
Dr. Hiers retired as head of the Department of Special Education at Valdosta State University. She had previously taught both regular and special education classes at the elementary and middle school level for many years. She also worked through Project HOPE in special education teacher training programs in Barbados and Brazil.
